“IFP has long been a part of my life giving me the
opportunity to follow my passion for black and white photography
and a place to interact with other photographers willing
to share their knowledge and skills. As the photographer
for my community newspaper since 1992, IFP's darkroom
has been an invaluable resource for me.” —Dorothy
Childers
IFP MN provides very visible opportunities for local filmmakers to screen their projects and for photographers to exhibit their work. From the walls of IFP's Center for Media Arts, to programming on Public Television, to the big screen of local independent theaters, IFP MN works hard to provide its members with a venue for presenting their artistic visions to audiences big and small:
• In addition to the annual IFP MN Members'
Photo Show and Silent Auction, our Center for
Media Arts provides ongoing member photography exhibition
space along its highly visible main corridors.
• With productive relationships among the independent
theater owners in the metropolitan area, IFP
MN often provides opportunities for filmmakers to view
their projects on a big screen at affordable costs before
an audience for the first time.
• Our popular monthly short film screening series, Cinema
Lounge, takes place at the Bryant-Lake Bowl
theater in Minneapolis on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
We screen 5-6 local, indie shorts with the filmmakers
there in-person to answer audience questions and give
an intimate look at what went in to each film. With no
charge for artists to submit a film, and no cover charge
for viewers to attend, the Clounge is a cheap evening
of cinematic fun in a relaxed, Uptown atmosphere.
• MNTV is an innovative partnership between IFP MN, Twin Cities
Public Television, Jerome Foundation, Walker Art Center,
and Intermedia Arts, which gives emerging Minnesota filmmakers
the opportunity to screen on television and to be compensated
for their work.
